Engineering

The core essence of Toufic Chamoun’s life was driven by his unrelenting need to improve life  in the home and  at large, to enable social progress. He saw a world struggling at the intersection of analogue processes and modern ones, and his role as modernising these processes and products through innovative measures.

As an inventor, he spent his life creating the machines which were core to the cogs of industries, covering different sectors, such as automotive, aviation, construction, consumer goods, mass production, and the design industry. He worked across Europe and the Middle East creating the machines which would power different kinds of businesses— from manufacturing to production.

One of his longest relationships was with Eternit Switzerland, which operated in Lebanon under his tutelage for a period. He was given the challenge of creating industrial-sized pipes to be used in large scale projects, specifically in urban infrastructure initiatives.

Toufic Chamoun created the machine which could mould the Eternit mix into a very large pipe. This would require his factory to be expanded and retooled to accommodate this new machine.

The Volkswagen Beetle was used as the 1.5 metre benchmark. Thus, if a Beetle could pass through it, the pipe size would be large enough.
